The Secret to Perfect Product Photos
If you’re interested in a way to take *aesthetic* professional product photos without breaking the bank, keep reading because i’ve got the tea for you.
I remember searching near and far for ways to create looks like these:
And I’m here to share the secret of how to achieve this look — it’s seamless paper. Essentially, it is a long roll of paper that is free of seams or patterns. It’s a great way to create a clean and consistent background for your products, and it's relatively inexpensive. Because it is seamless, it won’t distract from your product. Seamless paper also comes in a variety of colors, so you can choose the perfect background for your product.
I did quite a bit of research on quality seamless paper, different brands and whatnot — and ended up purchasing THIS ONE.
Seamless paper is also super easy to use. You legit just unroll the paper to your desired length and secure it to a backdrop stand. Then, place your product on the paper and start taking photos.
Personally, I just cut off the length of paper that I need and then secure it with packing tape onto a wall, then secure it to the ground as well. This has been a great temporary solution personally, but I so plan to invest in a background stand soon.
I’ve had some trial and error with seamless paper, so here are my top tips for you:
Experiment with different lighting techniques. Natural lighting is always best. Personally I use THIS EXTERNAL LIGHT to really brighten up the photos, even with natural lighting at times.
Take pictures from different angles to see what styles you prefer. Get close-ups, and even pictures of your hand holding one or more items.
Add props to create a more interesting scene. It all depends on the look you’re going for — don’t be afraid to play around with different elements that relate to your product.
Choose the right color paper for your product. A light-colored paper will really make your product pop, which a darker colored paper with produce more of a dramatic effect. I use THIS COLOR for my photos.
Editing your photos is usually a must. It’s rare to get a perfect shot from your camera. Adjust the brightness, contrast, or saturation. Or use an Adobe Lightroom preset — I do a combination of both.
Let me know how seamless paper works out for you — would love to hear.
